The Go! Team

Get Up Sequences Part 2 – Memphis Industries

Ever since their debut in 2004, The Go! Team, led by Ian Parton, has been ever present in mixing up indie sounds with funky hip hop beats and cheerleader chants to make some irresistible dance jams to move your body to. This collection of tracks has a number of guests appearing on the record and goes back to that early-aughts sound that The Go! Team is known for. This is the follow up to Get Up Sequences Part 1, released in 2021, which featured more psych rock influences.

Detroit based rapper Indigoyaj is featured on an amazingly fun track, “Divebomb,” (track2) that bounces in a cool call and response lyric, with a chorus that is earwormy. Star Feminine Band is featured on tracks 1 and 5 – they are out of West Africa – and they add some spice to the mix, furthering the band’s exploration into upbeat sonic heaven. The LP showcases a variety of world influences and tastes. This is what makes a collective like The Go! Team so entertaining and has carried them the last 20 years.

Track 6 has indecency, for those who are trying to limit exposure to that sort of thing. All other tracks are clean. Track 1 is sung in French. My faves are: 2**, 5**, 8**, 9*, 12*, and 11*.
