Love Is The Answer – Kanine Records
Las Robertas, the Costa Rican quintet specializing in 90s-era shoegaze, have released their debut LP, Love Is The Answer, on new label, Kanine Records. For fans of 60s melodies with guitars fuzzed out and distorted, this album is sure to satisfy. It’s not all dingy feedback, though. Tinges of Lush and more straight-ahead Cocteau Twins abound.
The album sports multiple layers of sound and the title track is an epic 6 minute gem that really transports you back to the 90s. Track 6, “Awakening,” is very Lush-like – as if they got Miki Berenyi to step in on vocals and harmonies. The track consists of jangly, echoey vocals, and an ethereal vibe. “F.” (track 7) starts with a gritty guitar solo and is slower paced – almost bluesy at its core, with melodic vocals. Although only 9 tracks in all, the listening experience feels like a nice lengthy journey as you explore the positives and intricacies of love.
