PHASOR – 4AD Records
Roberto Carlos Lange, aka Helado Negro, has released his 8th album in total and 2nd for indie behemoth 4AD records. The vibe and tenor on this record are that of warmth, love, and ambient joy. It is a celebratory mix of tunes inspired by the excitement of deep friendships/connections and the oscillating ambiance of poppy mood music. The album is full of jumpy rhythms and cloudy soft synths – in addition to some relaxed guitar work.
“Wish You Could Be Here,” track 8, starts with a frenetic click of noises that vibe down into a dreamy breakbeat – just chill sounds in a lo-fi bedroom pop sort of way. Track 2, “I Just Want To Wake Up With You,” is a soulful love song, playful and understated – with the soft vocals setting the mood. Track 4, “Colores Del Mar,” features Spanish language vocals – it is airy and light… like a cool breeze while sitting under an umbrella. The song is like a sonic beach escape. “Out There,” track 6, is a total jazz lounge fix. It features a superb bassline that sets up the bouncy vibraphone accents.
The album is lush, warm, and smoothly cool. A fun and chill album with which to relax your day away.
