Emiliana Torrini

Miss Flower – Groenland Records

On her new album and first solo effort in 10 years, Icelandic artist, Emiliana Torrini has released a record that explores love, loss, and the whispers of the past. Inspired by the life of Geraldine “Miss Flower” Moodie, a captivating and mysterious woman Torrini encountered, the songs act as a window into Geraldine’s world. There is plenty of melancholy in these dance themed tunes, yet there are shadows of hope and redemption in the slow burn of the album itself.

Track 7, “Let’s Keep Dancing,” is poppy and fun – a bouncy synth samba beat that gets your hips and legs moving. “Black Water,” track 1, is a cinematic soundscape of a song with spoken word – adding weight and a haunting vibe to the trip hop beat. Track 6, “Black Lion Lane,” is another poppy tune showcasing Torrini’s beautiful voice. “A Dream Through The Floorboards,” goes somber – it’s a piano based instrumental that is dramatic and poignant. Track 9, “The Golden Thread,” is a soft ballad – a song from a lover to her specific person.
