Stray Sunshine

Holiday / Late Trains – Tom Sillitoe

New singles from this Manchester/Chester-based band, led by Tom Sillitoe. Touring around the challenging and inspiring Manchester scene since 2019, he has assembled music from the last three years for what looks to be a complete album soon. June 2023 marks their return to the stage and touring as they set out with new singles Holiday and Late Trains. The potential for breakthrough is there, as the sound is gritty, powerful, and fits in line with what you’d expect from the Northwest corner of England.

The first single, Holiday, has hints of Modern English with the tones of Brit-pop reminiscent of those 90s giants, Ride, Blur and Oasis. The lyrics are a simple ode to a loved partner, who makes daily life a holiday. Driving guitars abound in the fuzzy production.

The second single, Late Trains, leans in on an acoustic guitar and a chill, lower-fi sound. It allows for Sillitoe’s voice to shine. The instrumentation adds an orchestral shimmer that gives a weight to the sentimental and twee-like lyrics. Hard not to compare this to a track from The Verve – well thought out pacing and a song that gets better each listen.

The songs will be released on Friday, June 23rd and we will be on the lookout for a full album soon, as touring and more releases are set for the back half of the year. Really looking forward to following Stray Sunshine as they embark on their sonic adventure.
