Run The Jewels

RTJ CU4TRO – Jewel Runners/BMG

Diverse, Latin rhythms, and genius hip hop remixes – get it all on the re-imagined release, RTJ CU4TRO, a companion piece to Run The Jewels’ 2020 effort, RTJ4. Breathing fresh new life into these songs, while giving them their own sound, Killer Mike and El-P craft together, with the help of several Latin American DJs, producers, and rappers, a highlight of funky sounds, witty phrasing, and tectonic beats.

Each track gets re-imagined and has enough sauce to differentiate from the original. That’s what makes this album so fun! My favorites from RTJ4 stand out even more, like track 2, “Ooh La La,” which gives a bumpy saunter of a beat with Latino synths thanks to the Mexican Institute of Sound. Stand out track 7, “Ju$t,” features Toy Selectah – I’d argue it may be even better than the Pharrell Williams version.

Salsa and merengue jams with hip-hop, as many Latin American hip hop artists have been doing for a while but mix in Killer Mike and El-P – just press play!
